SF: Holm hits first HR
Steve Holm (C)5/11: Giants catcher Steve Holm entered Sunday's game against the Phillies as a defensive replacement, then delivered a go-ahead two-run home run. It was his first major-league home run. Our View: The backup catcher has now played in 15 games this year. Holm has four RBI and three runs scored on the year, offering owners in all formats little value.
SEA: Vidro still nursing bad back
Jose Vidro (DH)5/11: The Mariners designated hitter, Jose Vidro , didn't play Sunday against the White Sox because of back spasms. Our View: He has missed five of the last six games due to the ailment.
SEA: Gookie sings with Pale Sox
Gookie Dawkins (SS)5/11: The White Sox signed infielder Gookie Dawkins to a minor league contract on Sunday.
Our View: Anyone who grew up with the name Gookie, has to be one tough Cookie,I mean Gookie.
LAA: Greenberg lands in LA
Adam Greenberg (OF)5/11: The Angels signed outfielder Adam Greenberg to a minor league contract on Saturday night.
Our View: Greenberg hasn't been the same since being hit in the head by a pitch in his first ever major league at bat.
SD: Bard nursing wrist injury
Josh Bard (C)5/11: Josh Bard was held out of Sunday's game after receiving a cortisone injection in his surgically repaired right wrist.
Our View: The team considers their starting catcher day-to-day.
TB: Howell wins second in relief
J.P. Howell (P)5/11: J.P. Howell pitched three scoreless innings in relief of starter Andy Sonnanstine to get his second win of the season as the Rays scored a 8-5 victory over the Angels. Our View: Howell made his 11th appearance of the season. He has pitched 24 innings this year allowing 19 hits, walking nine and striking out 22.
SEA: Putz earns third save
J.J. Putz (P)5/11: J.J. Putz recorded his third save as the Mariners held on to beat the White Sox 6-3 on Sunday. Putz worked the ninth for his first save since April 22. Our View: The Seattle closer walked Joe Crede with two outs before he struck out Nick Swisher. Putz is beginning to get his timing back after missing time on the disabled list.
SEA: Batista wins third
Miguel Batista (P)5/11: Miguel Batista allowed three runs on 10 hits, walked three and struck out six on a season-high 115 pitches. Batista somehow hung on long enough to record his third win of the season. Our View: Batista has been suffering from a foot injury that has nagged him since last year and once again the right-hander struggled with his command.
CWS: Floyd hit hard by M's
Gavin Floyd (P)5/11: Gavin Floyd, who has toyed with no-hitters and been one of the toughest pitchers to hit this season, allowed five runs on nine hits in only 3.2 innings of work Sunday in a loss to the Mariners.
Our View: Floyd entered with a major league-leading opponent batting average of .149. He carried a no-hitter into the ninth Tuesday against Minnesota and into the seventh April 12 against Detroit.
SD: Young wins third
Chris Young (P)5/11: Chris Young allowed one run on five hits, walked two and struck out seven as the Padres beat the Rockies 6-1 on Sunday. Our View: Young much prefers to pitch in PETCO Park, but then who wouldn't. More than one major league hitter, including the current group that record half of their at-bats in the Padres home field, say it's difficult to drive the ball.

SEA: Alexander visits New Orleans
Shaun Alexander (RB)5/11: The Saints' interest in former NFL MVP running back Shaun Alexander appears to be more of a fact-finding visit to the Saints facility than anything else, according to the Sun Herald.
Our View: The team supposedly is feeling out the possibility and seeking the different options of the staff and front office, but nothing definitive or immediate is expected to happen concerning the ex-Seahawk running back.
GB: Robinson to Oakland?
Koren Robinson (WR)5/11: According to the Contra Costa Times, Oakland is rumored to be interested in recently released wideout K Koren Robinson . The word is they have inquired about the free agent to help in the area of kickoff returns. Our View: The report also notes that it appears the rumor is just that, and the team has had no serious talks about bringing in the veteran special teamer.
OAK: Holland not eligible
Johnathan Holland (WR)5/11: According to the Contra Costa Times, after saying Friday that wide receiver Johnathan Holland had been held out of practice by the training staff, Kiffin said Sunday Holland actually was not eligible for the rookie minicamp because he spent last season on injured reserve, as opposed to the Physically Unable to Perform list. Our View: Holland worked out virtually every day alongside Michael Bush last year, but since Bush was on PUP, he was eligible and Holland was not.
ATL: Ojinnaka joins familiar group
Quinn Ojinnaka (T)5/11: When the Falcons top unit broke the huddle during a Sunday minicamp practice, the offensive line looked shockingly familiar, this according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Quinn Ojinnaka was at left tackle, Justin Blalock at left guard, Todd McClure at center, Kynan Forney at right guard and Tyson Clabo at right tackle. Our View: That group started the last two games last season. However, the Falcon' offensive line was a jumbled mess last season — mostly due to injury.
HOU: Williams continues to impress
Mario Williams (DE)5/11: Defensive end Mario Williams dazzled the coaching staff during the the Texans' weekend mini-camp. Mario was impressive in this camp," head coach Gary Kubiak tells the team's official web site. "I tell you, he’s an impressive young man right now. And y’all can see it, watching him practice and how he’s going about it... That light went on for Mario somewhere last year about Week 7 or 8." Our View: Williams registered 11 sacks over the final nine games in 2007, and he is on his way to justifying his No. 1 overall pick status. Fantasy owners in IDP leagues should be very excited about this guy.
BAL: Heap resting legs
Todd Heap (TE)5/11: Updating an earlier report, the Ravens have been allowing Todd Heap to rest his hamstring during mini-camp, the Baltimore Sun reports. Heap's hamstring is one of the reasons he played in just six games in 2007. Our View: We figured it might be something like that. Heap is no stranger to injury, and the Ravens should keep him bubble-wrapped during the summer and possibly throughout training camp.
BAL: Heap misses practice
Todd Heap (TE)5/11: Todd Heap was not at morning practice on Sunday, but the reason is not known, the Baltimore Sun reports. Our View: We hope the oft-injured Heap doesn't have another ailment. We'll update his status when more is known.
ATL: Finneran fighting for spot
Brian Finneran (WR)5/11: Wide receiver Brian Finneran went through most of the drills in Saturday's mini-camp practices. He is wearing a big brace on his surgically repaired right knee. Finneran has missed the last two seasons after tearing his ACL twice. "There were days when you question yourself and wonder what the heck you're doing," he tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "I want to be out there and be productive for one more season — at least. It would mean everything, unbelievable to get back. I know it's a long shot." Our View: Finneran doesn't have any fantasy value, but he's a guy to cheer for. It would be a nice story if he was able to recover from two serious knee operations.
ATL: Shockley on the way back
D.J. Shockley (QB)5/11: D.J. Shockley participated in most of Saturday's mini-camp drills, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. He tore the ACL in his left knee last August and missed the entire year. Our View: Shockley will be fighting for a roster spot this summer. If he can impress the club, Shockley may be able to kick out Joey Harrington and establish himself as a long-term backup to Matt Ryan. There's no fantasy value here, though.
STL: Carriker participates
Adam Carriker (DT)5/11: Defensive tackle Adam Carriker was a partial participant in Saturday's mini-camp drills. He is recovering from a torn labrum in his shoulder. "It's amazing... Generally with an injury like that, it's four to six months before you can do anything. He'd probably be able to play a game if we had to," head coach Scott Linehan explains to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. "I think a lot of it has to do with work ethic and want-to. That guy has been busting his butt since the end of the season, and it's really paid off." Our View: Carriker is a promising young defensive lineman, but it's tough for any tackle to get much love in IDP leagues.

LAL: Odom scores 26 in Lakers loss
Lamar Odom (F)5/11: Lamar Odom did everything he was supposed to on Sunday, keeping the Lakers in the game despite an injured Kobe Bryant. Odom, who scored 26 points and added 13 rebounds hit a critical three-point shot in the final seconds of the fourth quarter to help push the game into overtime. Our View: Odom played 51 minutes in the loss, a number that could have an effect on Game 5 in Los Angeles on Wednesday, despite the extra day between games.
LAL: Bryant tweaks back; Lakers lose
Kobe Bryant (G)5/11: Kobe Bryant, who tweaked a lower back muscle in Sunday's 123-115 loss to the Jazz, scored 33 points and added 10 helpers. Our View: Bryant was in obvious pain for most of the final three quarters, and didn't have the wherewithal to attack the rim resulting in several critical blocked shots by Jazz defender Andrei Kirilenko. While Bryant is expected to play in Game 5 back at in LA at the Staples Center, he could again be limited by the lower back ailment.
UTH: Boozer fizzles in win
Carlos Boozer (F)5/11: Carlos Boozer scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half and grabbed 12 rebounds as the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 123-115 on Sunday, tying the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2. Our View: Boozer did little to assist his teammates in the first half of Sunday's win, and must become more consistent if he intends on helping his team to a Game 5 win in Los Angels.
UTH: Williams drops 29 in win
Deron Williams (G)5/11: Deron Williams had 29 points and 14 assists as the Utah Jazz beat the Los Angeles Lakers 123-115 on Sunday, tying the Western Conference semifinals at 2-2. Our View: Williams was terrific for most of the game, but in the fourth quarter, with less than two minutes remaining, seemed more concerned with killing clock rather than running the offense. The brain cramp resulted in the Lakers coming from back from a double-digit deficit and taking the game into overtime.
LAL: Turiaf ejected
Ronny Turiaf (F)5/11: Ronny Turiaf was ejected from Sunday's game against the Jazz after he committed a flagrant foul on guard Ronnie Price. The forward knocked Price to the ground as the guard drove in for a layup, and the foul caused the Jazz player to hit his head on the floor, the AP notes. Price had a bloody gash over his right eye. Our View: Turiaf is around to provide toughness for 10-20 minutes per night, but he took that one a little too far.
ORL: Nelson confident about Game 5
Jameer Nelson (G)5/11: Jameer Nelson and the Magic are not ready for the offseason. The point guard predicted a win in Tuesday's at Detroit. "We're going to make some adjustments and we're going to win this game," Nelson tells the AP. "I'm not being arrogant or cocky or anything like that. I think [Saturday] we let it slip out of our hands. Game 2 we let it slip out of our hands. We're going to win this game in Detroit." Our View: This is the type of quote that get sports fans, reporters, and talk shows all worked up. Nelson sounds like a confident point guard trying to rally the troops.
DAL: Carlisle deal done
Dirk Nowitzki (F)5/11: The Mavericks have officially signed Rick Carlisle to a four-year deal to be the next head coach, the Dallas Morning News confirms. Our View: Forgive us for yawning. Carlisle is more of a half-court coach than an up-and-down runner, which could be bad news for a guy like Josh Howard. Dirk Nowitzki's high fantasy value is safe.
CLE: Delonte shows to help LeBron
Delonte West (G)5/10: The Cavs finally jumped back into form, finding an impressive 108-84 win in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference semifinals over the Boston Celtics while LeBron James finally found a worthy running mate. PG Delonte West went 7-of-11 from the field, an impressive 4-of-6 from the three-point stripe, and 3-of-3 from the free-throw line to match LeBron with 21 points, adding five rebound, seven assists, and a steal to the stat line. Our View: If West can show like this every time on the floor, the Cavs could be as dangerous as any team in the east. Chances of him pulling that off? Slim and none.
BOS: Allen struggles to show vs Cleveland
Ray Allen (G)5/10: The Celtics suffered their first loss of the Eastern Conference semifinals as the Cleveland Cavaliers took Game 3, 108-84. None of the members of the starting lineup did much to rave about, but guard Ray Allen was especially atrocious, going 4-of-12 from the floor, a pathetic 0-of-5 from the three-point line, and 2-of-2 from the charity stripe to finish with 10 points. Our View: If Ray-Ray doesn't improve, the Cavs could easily jump right back into this series. Garnett can't do it all on his own, and Allen (not to mention Paul Pierce and Rajon Rondo) need to step it up or suffer the consequences.
CLE: LeBron gets first win versus Celtics
LeBron James (F)5/10: With the end coming all too close for view, the Cleveland Cavaliers put their foot on the gas and put an impressive win on the board, taking Boston to task 108-84. Of course, forward LeBron James was the catalyst for the charge, going 5-of-16 from the floor, 3-of-5 from the three-point line, and 8-of-12 from the free-throw line to score 21 points. James also added five rebounds, eight assists, four steals, and three blocked shots to the stat line. Our View: All things told, it was a sub-par evening for LeBron, but his teammates (namely Delonte West) stepped it up and the team effort prevailed.

PIT: Staal adds empty netter in win
Jordan Staal (C)5/11: Jordan Staal added an empty-net goal in the final minute as Pittsburgh came back to win after twice squandering one-goal leads. The Pens lead the best-of-7 series 2-0 over the Flyers.
Our View: Staal joined Sidney Crsoby and Marian Hossa who also scored in the win.
PIT: Talbot helps Pens go up 2-0
Maxime Talbot (C)5/11: Maxime Talbot, a sometimes overlooked fourth-line forward on a team renowned for its stars, scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period and the Pittsburgh Penguins took a two-game lead in the Eastern Conference finals by beating the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 Sunday night. Our View: Talbot played in 63 regular season games and scored 26 points, 12 coming by goals.
PHI: Coburn leaves Game 2
Braydon Coburn (D)5/11: Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn was struck in the face with a shot by Pittsburgh's Hal Gill early in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals Sunday night, according to the AP.
The Flyers are playing the series without their top defenseman, Kimmo Timonen, who has a blood clot on his left ankle that developed in Game 4 of the second round against Montreal.
Our View: Gill took a shot from the left point that apparently deflected off Evgeni Malkin's stick and struck Coburn near the left eye less than two minutes into the first period. Coburn dropped to the ice, bleeding, but soon got up without assistance and went to the dressing room with a towel held to his face.
The game was delayed for about a minute to wipe the blood from the ice.
DAL: Ribeiro could be suspended
Mike Ribeiro (C)5/11: Mike Ribeiro could receive a suspension after slashing Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood in the chest on Saturday night, the Dallas Morning News reports. NHL senior executive vice president of hockey operations Colin Campbell is reviewing the situation and could hand out a one-game penalty. Ribeiro was retaliating after Osgood used his stick to hit the Stars leading scorer in the face. Our View: The Stars are down 0-2 in the series and certainly don't want to play without Ribeiro. We won't be surprised if the NHL lays down a suspension, though.
PHI: Downie to play in Game 2
Steve Downie (W)5/11: The Flyers may turn to Steve Downie to help against the Penguins in Game 2, the Philadelphia Inquirer reports. The forward has appeared in only four of the 13 playoff games thus far. Our View: Hey, if the Penguins can win with 20 and 21-year-old kids flying around, why can't the Flyers? Okay, so maybe Downie doesn't strike as much fear in opponents as Malkin and Crosby.
PIT: Talbot wil play
Maxime Talbot (C)5/11: Center Maxime Talbot will play on Sunday night against the Flyers, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review confirms. He has been out since Game 3 versus the Rangers due to a broken right foot. Our View: We don't know if Talbot will log many minutes or be 100 percent effective, but his presence will be a boost.
DAL: Lehtinen injures leg
Jere Lehtinen (W)5/11: Jere Lehtinen left Game 2 of the series against the Red Wings due to a leg injury, the Dallas Morning News confirms. He did not return. Our View: We're guessing the Stars will be relatively mum about this injury moving forward, but we'll update Jere's status when more is known.
DAL: Turco saves 32 but fall to Detroit
Marty Turco (G)5/10: Give Marty Turco credit. He faced nearly twice as many shots on goal as his Detroit counterpoint, and he allowed just two to get by. Unfortunately, that's all Detroit needed to get the win, 2-1, and take a 2-0 lead in their Western Conference final. Our View: Turco has been strong in the playoffs, but his team is falling apart on defense and the Detroit Red Wings just seem too good to be handled.
DET: Zetterberg nets goal in 2-1 win for Detroit
Henrik Zetterberg (W)5/10: It took him seven shots on goal to get the job done, but Detroit winger Henrik Zetterberg scored one of two goals to give the Red Wings a 2-1 victory over the Dallas Stars, putting Detroit in the driver's seat with a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference finals. Our View: Zetterberg has tallied six goals and seven assists throughout the playoffs, taking the lead for the Red Wings just as he did during the regular season (92 point).
DET: Franzen out indefinately
Johan Franzen (C)5/10: Leading playoff goal scorer Johan Franzen is reportedly out of the Red Wings' lineup "indefinately," according to SLAM Sports. Our View: Franzen sat out Game 2 of the Western Conference final tonight with concussion-like symptoms. An official press release from the Detroit Red Wings states, "Franzen is scheduled to remain in Detroit to undergo testing on Monday." Franzen has reportedly been complaining of headaches since the 2nd-round series against Colorado. Now the team is taking precautions to insure he is ok. We will update as news becomes available.
