Minor leaguer Michael Bowden tossed a no-hitter for six innings before eventually settling for 6.2 innings of one hit ball, according to the Providence Journal. In the outing, Bowden walked four, struck out only two, and allowed a single unearned run.

Our View:The Sox certainly have a lot of quality major league ready arms in the minors led by the likes of Bowden and Clay Buchholz, so if Brad Penny and John Smoltz fail to pan out, the organization certainly isn't devoid of options for the starting rotation.

Michael Bowden will be sent back to Triple-A Pawtucket to make room for Julio Lugo on Boston's roster, according to the Providence Journal. Lugo (knee surgery) has been activated from the DL.

Our View:Bowden is a top pitching prospect, but would not have held much fantasy value right now as a reliever if the Sox kept him on the roster.

Michael Bowden has been recalled by the Red Sox from Triple-A Pawtucket, according to the Associated Press. The club optioned infielder Gil Velazquez to Pawtucket as the adjoining move.

Our View:Bowden is a top pitching prospect for the Sox and held a strong 0.64 ERA over 14 innings at Pawtucket, but his fantasy value will be initially limited while serving in the bullpen.
March 23, 2009
Michael Bowden has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket by the Red Sox, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Bowden is a top pitching prospect, but the club does not have a spot for him in their crowded rotation. He could serve as a spot-starter during the season, depending on injuries.
February 16, 2009
Michael Bowden is stronger and added some bulk in the off-season, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:The team is pleased with his added strength, but his fantasy value remains limited as a likely spot-starter this season.
