Player Notes
September 28, 2009
Michael Bowden was roughed up for seven earned runs on seven hits over a mere three innings in Monday's 11-5 loss to the Jays at Fenway Park. He had one walk with three strikeouts, and gave up two homers. The game was called after seven innings due to rain.

Our View:Bowden gravely struggled while making a spot start in place of the ailing Josh Beckett (back spasms). He has a future in the bigs, but is clearly not ready to make an impact.

Michael Bowden is slated to start tonight's home game against Toronto, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Josh Beckett was a late scratch due to back spasms. Bowden will be making his first start of 2009, and carries a 7.84 ERA over 10.1 innings.
September 5, 2009
Michael Bowden has been called up from Triple-A Pawtucket.

Our View:He will serve in long-relief, and doesn't figure to make too many appearances. He has allowed seven earned runs in just four major league innings this season.

One day after getting called up, Michael Bowden has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Our View:Bowden managed to fit a disastrous outing during his one day call-up, allowing seven earned runs in two innings against the Yankees on Friday. He'll likely be back in September when rosters expand.

The Boston Globe is reporting that the Red Sox have recalled pitcher Michael Bowden from Triple-A Pawtucket. Fernando Cabrera was demoted in a corresponding move.

Our View:Bowden will join the bullpen, and he should be a nice addition. He has been very good in Triple-A this season, compiling a 3.20 ERA in 22 starts and has held opponents to a .222 average. He won't have any fantasy value until he joins the rotation, which may be a few years away.
