Head coach Sean Payton indicated that the Saints have no immediate plans to ink free agent running back Edgerrin James, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Payton said, "Right now we are content with the guys we have."

Our View:The Saints already have good depth at running back with Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell, and there is no urgency to add James, who is on the downside of his career.

Edgerrin James is reportedly still on the Saints' radar, according to FOX Sports. GM Mickey Loomis said, "We have spent some time evaluating Edgerrin. We think he can still play. We are going to continue to evaluate that and see where it ends up. We have not made a decision on Edgerrin yet."

Our View:James would replace Deuce McAllister, and James' fantasy value would be limited while fighting with Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush for playing time. His agent (Drew Rosenhaus) recently stated that were several NFL teams interested in James.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus (on his twitter page) stated that several NFL clubs have garnered interest in client Edgerrin James.

Our View:Rosenhaus also noted that James will take his time before inking a deal. He did not disclose any of the interested clubs, but it is known that the Saints had James on their radar.

ESPN.com reports that Saints coach Sean Payton told reporters that the team is not strongly interested in running back Edgerrin James.

Our View:While the Saints had some interest in James, it is unknown how much interest he had in them. The running back wanted out of Arizona so that he could play a more prominent role with a team. In New Orleans he would likely back up Pierre Thomas and Reggie Bush.

The Saints are reportedly considering signing Edgerrin James, according to NFL.com. GM Mickey Loomis said, "There has been talk about Edgerrin James, and we have spent some time evaluating that prospect. We will continue to do that. We have not made any decision or closed any doors on acquiring another running back if we feel that is something we need to do. We do feel a lot better about what we have in-house than people do outside of our building."

Our View:James would not likely push Reggie Bush or Pierre Thomas from the top two spots on the Saints' depth chart, and could merely be used as a replacement for Deuce McAllister as the third option at running back.
