Edgerrin James looked to be in great shape in preparing for what could be a 20 carry-per-game season, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:This is a bit of good news for fantasy owners, but James will be 30 on August 1, which is the magic age running backs suddenly deteriorate. He is no longer an elite fantasy back, but he is still a serviceable number two or three type.

Since the end of last season, there has been speculation the Arizona Cardinals were eager to replace running back Edgerrin James with a younger, faster model. Not so, team officials say. The organization would like to add a running back in this weekend's draft, but the Cardinals would be content to again go with James and develop a potential replacement, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:The Cardinals are rumored to be looking for an explosive back to compliment James, who posted only four carries of 20+ yards last year. If the Cardinals address the position in the draft, we envision a situation where James could be the starter early in the year, with the ground game possibly evolving into a RBBC scenario as the season progresses.

The Arizona Republic is reporting that the Cardinals are searching for a young running back to share the load with starter Edgerrin James, and will do so through the draft. Whisenhunt told AzCentral.com that current backups J.J. Arrington and Marcel Shipp are contenders to take some of the load off the veteran James next season. But both were on the roster last year and were rarely trusted to work an entire series. "It would be nice to have a guy who would give us the home-run ability at that position like we've seen a lot of young backs do recently," Whisenhunt said. Whisenhunt pimped James' ability and pointed out that he gained 1,232 yards, but look for the team to draft young speed in the upcoming amateur draft.

Edgerrin James could be traded or released this offseason in a salary-cap move, according to the East Valley Tribune. He's scheduled to be paid $5 million, but he'll cost $6.75 million on the salary cap. GM Rod Graves said working out a new deal with Larry Fitzgerald to give the team some salary-cap flexibility likely will determine what they'll be able to do with Edge, who had a quiet 1,222 rushing yards and seven touchdowns last season.

Edgerrin James said after the season finale that he wanted to play a bigger role in 2007, the Arizona Republic reports. Perhaps James doesn't realize that his 324 carries were actually the second-most in the league, and his 3.8 yards per carry is nothing to get too excited about.
