Derrick Burgess has been working solely as a defensive end since being acquired by the Patriots, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Burgess still has some catching up to do regarding the playbook, and he should eventually get worked into the mix as an outside linebacker in the 3-4 defense. Either way, his primary role looks to be as a pass rusher.

The Patriots plan on moving the recently acquired Derrick Burgess to linebacker, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Burgess could be one of the Patriots' top pass rushers this season coming from the outside. Consider him in IDP leagues, as even though he is about to turn 31, he's in a contract year and likely wanting to reprove himself in 2009.

According to the team's official website, the New England Patriots have acquired linebacker Derrick Burgess from the Raiders in exchange for a third- and fifth-round pick in 2011. The team also released offensive lineman Al Johnson to make room for Burgess.

Our View:Burgess to the Pats has been quietly talked about since he requested a trade earlier this summer, but now it is official. As with most players, Burgess should thrive in New England assuming he gets on the field for enough snaps, and he should provide the team with a nice pass-rushing threat off the edge if he stays healthy.

RaidersBeat.com is reporting that the team is trying to trade disgruntled linebacker Derrick Burgess. Burgess has failed to show at training camp after requesting a trade earlier this offseason.

Our View:Burgess is in the last year of his current deal, and he wants to go somewhere to start so he can make his money next season. The Raiders have been asking for a third and fourth-rounder, but with little-to-no leverage it seems likely they will get less of a return.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that defensive lineman Derrick Burgess failed to show his face on Wednesday, the opening day of training camp.

Our View:Burgess is looking to be traded. The team already revealed that he wouldn't be a starter this season, and with this being a contract year, they obviously aren't going to offer him an extension. Looks like he doesn't care if he lands on coach Cable's bad side and thinks he'll be dealt.
