Earlier today we reported the Texans were battling to make a decision about rusher Chris Brown and his future with the team. We are now learning the franchise has decided to place Brown on injured reserve, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Brown, 27, has battled back problems all through training camp. It became the latest issue in what has been an injury-plagued career for Brown. Brown, signed a two-year contract worth $3.6 million this offseason with the Texans. He received $800,000 as a signing bonus.

The teams of the NFL are making final roster cuts today and one particular decision of interest may come from Houston where a source close to the team indicates the lack of knowledge about the health of rusher Chris Brown is weighing heavy, according to the Sporting News. Doctors have been a part of Brown's daily life in Houston and they are reportedly meeting again today with hopes of producing some kind of worthy prognosis for the season ahead, a report that will play a major role in making the final roster.

Our View:Brown is a capable performer when healthy and the hope is to see him share the field with veteran Ahman Green (an injury concern in his own right) and rookie Steve Slaton. However, if doctors believe Brown is a great risk and unlikely to maintain health, he could be released.

Chris Brown was slated to start against the Cowboys Friday, but was a late scratch due to his sore back, according to the Houston Chronicle. Coach Gary Kubiak said, "His back was bothering him Wednesday. When he got up Thursday, it was bothering him again. He had to get another shot in it. Once he got the shot, we couldn’t play him in the game." Chris Taylor started and carried 11 times for 47 yards.

Our View:Brown had a great opportunity to improve his bid to be the Texans' starting running back, but unfortunately his back did not cooperate.
August 19, 2008
Chris Brown will start at running back for the Houston Texans in their preseason game against Dallas, according to the Houston Chronicle. Rookie Steve Slaton will also see time with the first unit.

Our View:Do not read too much into this, as the team will likely use the dreaded (for fantasy owners, anyway) running-back-by-committee approach until Ahman Green gets healthy.
August 17, 2008
Chris Brown saw his first action of the preseason but struggled against the Saints, as he only mustered 18 yards on nine carries, according to the Houston Chronicle. His longest carry was only five yards.

Our View:Brown has fallen behind while dealing with a sore back, and is not a lock to make the final roster while competing with Ahman Green, Chris Taylor, Darius Walker, and rookie Steve Slaton.
August 13, 2008
Chris Brown has returned to practice after dealing with a sore back, and he feels good and more than ready to participate in Saturday's preseason game against the Saints, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Brown now needs to play catch-up while competing behind Ahman Green, Chris Taylor, Darius Walker, and rookie Steve Slaton for a spot on the Texans' final roster.
July 30, 2008
Coach Gary Kubiak talked to the Houston Chronicle regarding injured running back Chris Brown. "I'm concerned about the time missed. You've got four backs (Ahman Green, Chris Taylor, Darius Walker and Steve Slaton) really working hard. He needs to get on the field and catch up."

Our View:The Texans seem anything but settled in their backfield. On Friday, the Texans will give tryouts to some running backs, including Mike Bell, who played at Denver the last two years.
July 28, 2008
Chris Brown is already being forced out of action with aches and pains, according to the Houston Chronicle. Brown missed Monday's practice with a sore back.

Our View:Brown was brought in to spell Ahman Green this season, but is not off to an encouraging start. Brown has missed 17 games over the past two seasons due to injuries.
March 13, 2008
Chris Brown has inked a deal with the Texans, according to the Houston Chronicle. Details of the contract are yet to be released but Coach Kubiak said, "Brown is an ideal fit in the new system being installed by assistant head coach Alex Gibbs."
March 13, 2008
Chris Brown has attracted interest from the Chicago Bears according to FanNation. Brown is scheduled to visit with Houston today, and there are reports that Denver is also interested in his services.
March 12, 2008
The NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports that the Texans are expected to complete a deal for free agent running back Chris Brown tomorrow. Brown had 464 yards and five TDs last year with Tennessee. Brown isn't likely to start with Ahman Green still around, but he would still see plenty of carries.
March 3, 2008
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have reached out to the agent for Titans free agent Chris Brown, according to the Tampa Tribune. Thus far no visit has been scheduled, but the team is reportedly also interested in Warrick Dunn, presumably to bring in competition for the backup role behind Earnest Graham.
January 4, 2008
Chris Brown (back) was able to have a full practice Thursday. His status is important for Sunday's game at San Diego, with LenDale White battling a sore knee (White didn't work Thursday).
