The Cardinals and linebacker Karlos Dansby remain "far apart" on a long-term contract, the East Valley Tribune reports. "I don’t think it’s going to happen," agent Kirk Wood says. Dansby received the franchise tag this offseason, and the two sides have until Tuesday, July 15 to work out a long-term deal.

Our View:At this point, it doesn't sound like Dansby is a threat to hold out of camp. If that holds true, he'll retain his solid IDP value.

As time moves on, the chances of a new long-term deal for Arizona linebacker Karlos Dansby seem to disipate, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:The deadline to come to such an agreement before the franchise tag designation placed on Dansby takes hold for the season comes on July 15th, and with several weeks of rumors that this deal was in the works with no contract signed to date, it seems the two sides are unlikely to get it done. If that holds true, Dansby will be granted a one-year deal to stay in 'Zona for the averaged salaries of the top five players in the league at his position, and the potential to leave next offseason becomes a reality. Sources close to the team suggest GM Rod Graves is willing to give Dansby a strong deal in terms of incentive-based statistics and achievements, but he has balked at the suggestions for multiple years at $9 million per. We'll keep you posted, but the current status of the relationship seems likey to stay intact until the 15th, and beyond.

Reports out of Arizona indicate Cardinals GM Rod Graves and linebacker Karlos Dansby are nearing a new long-term contract agreement, according to AZCentral.com.

Our View:Both sides have stated that they would like to get a new deal in place before the July 15th deadline in order to not only free up cap space but also keep Dansby in Arizona for the foreseeable future. If a deal can't be reached, Dansby would play out this season (with $8 million guaranteed) and then be a free agent. Reports have surfaced recently that Dansby and his agent purposed a contract that would pay him about $9 million a season, but the Cardinals obviously didn't agree with that amount.

Karlos Dansby's agent and Cardinals GM ROd Graves have not spoken in a couple weeks as the team and the player attempt to work out a long-term deal, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Dansby was signed to a 1-year tender as the team's franchise player ($8.025 million), but negotiations on an extension beyond this season have gone nowhere.
April 18, 2008
Karlos Dansby signed his one-year, $8.065 million franchise tag tender on Friday, the Arizona Republic confirms. The two sides have until July 15 to reach an agreement on a long-term deal. "Hey, I'm feeling good about it, to be honest," Dansby says. "If it's not what I think I'm worth, then I'm not going to sign."

Our View:Dansby's versatility makes him a valuable asset to the Cardinals and in fantasy leagues. At this point, he'll be playing for a huge contract during the 2008 season.
