A.J. Burnett, P, Toronto Blue JaysWednesday 7/23, 11:32 PM CT
A.J. Burnett and his Blue Jays teammates had their game with the Orioles suspended due to rain and has been scheduled to resume on Thursday at 12:05 PM prior to the regularly scheduled game, according to MLB.com.

Our View: A modified double header is therefor in the cards for these two clubs on Thursday.
David Ortiz, DH, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/23, 10:03 PM CT
David Ortiz said that he is feeling better but that he is not yet at 100%, according to the Boston Globe. “It’s not an easy injury to deal with,” he said. “But other than that, I feel fine. I think I’m where I’d like to be. I’m not going to lie to you. I’m not 100 percent. But I’m close.”

Our View: Ortiz would like to be activated for the Red Sox game on Friday, and until we hear otherwise, we assume he will be, though it is clear that you shouldn't expect him to return to his bashing ways once activated.
David Price, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 7/23, 10:00 PM CT
David Price allowed seven hits and three runs over six innings in what could be his last Double-A start before he is promoted to Triple-A, according to Scout.com.

Our View: Price could take the roster spot at Triple-A of Jeremy Cummings who was selected to participate in the Olympics for the United States. Price, who owns a 2.19 ERA, could find himself pitching for the Rays in September if he proves himself capable of handling Triple-A batters.
Shin-Soo Choo, RF, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 7/23, 9:49 PM CT
Shin-Soo Choo must serve in the South Korean military for two years, and that obligation must be met by the 2010 season, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. "If you win any kind of medal in the Olympics, you might only have to serve four weeks," said Choo.

Our View: Unfortunately for Choo, he is isn't eligible for the Games since he is on the Indians 25 man roster, and since he is out of options, the team cannot send him down to make him eligible. The clock is ticking for Choo.
Juan Uribe, 2B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 9:41 PM CT
Juan Uribe could be on his way to wearing both Sox jerseys in once season, according to a report on CBS Sportsline. According to Danny Knobler, the White and Red Sox are in "deep conversation" in regards to sending the veteran infielder east.

Our View: The report further speculates that Alex Cora could be headed to the White Sox while this move might also be a precursor for one last push to acquire the Orioles Brian Roberts.
Joey Devine, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 8:49 PM CT
Joey Devine hopes to return to action some time next week from his elbow strain, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: As important as that news is the fact that the Chronicle speculated that if the A's do move Huston Street in a deal that it would be Devine who would take over ninth inning duties. For those of you who like to speculate, you'll want to keep that in mind.
Mark Ellis, 2B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 8:47 PM CT
Mark Ellis, who is out of action because of a sore shoulder, hopes to return to the field on Friday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View: Ellis has been able to take BP but has experienced some pain while throwing. Considering that Ellis had an extremely serious injury to the same shoulder in 2004, the team plans on being very careful with him this time around.
J.J. Putz, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:32 PM CT
J.J. Putz looked good on Wednesday as he worked two innings and limited the Red Sox to just one hit while striking out three.

Our View: A couple of outings like this and Putz could find himself back in the closers role with Brandon Morrow moving back to the setup role. Still, Morrow also worked two innings in the game and didn't allow a run, so it's not like the Mariners need to rush Putz back into the closers role.
Felix Hernandez, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:30 PM CT
Felix Hernandez needed 108 pitches to make it through six innings on Wednesday in a no-decision against the Red Sox. King Felix allowed six hits and five walks, leading to three runs (two earned).

Our View: Felix continues to tease with his stuff as the results continue to be a bit mixed. Still, he has 118 K in 125 innings and owns a 2.95 ERA, so even amidst some struggles he is dominating most hitters.
Clay Buchholz, P, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/23, 8:27 PM CT
Clay Buchholz struck out seven Mariners in 5.1 innings, and though he allowed just three runs he wasn't involved in the decision on Wednesday.

Our View: Buchholz looked powerful on the hill today at times, but he was victimized by two long balls, this after allowing just four dingers in his first 10 starts. This was his best start since being recalled, but he still has a 6.60 ERA and 1.93 WHIP over three starts in July as he continues to struggle to put it all together.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/23, 8:23 PM CT
Dustin Pedroia had two hits on Wednesday and is now batting .374 in 179 AB since the start of June to raise his average to .321.

Our View: Pedroia has erased his slow start to become one of the best second tier second basemen in the game. The average is legit, and if he continues to bat near the top of the Sox lineup he will continue to pile up the runs (he has 70).
Jose Lopez, 2B, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:19 PM CT
Jose Lopez extended hit personal hitting streak to 11-games on Monday as he went 2-for-6 with a run scored for the Mariners.

Our View: Lopez continues to produce solid numbers with a .297 average, six home runs and 52 RBI, and though he isn't a sexy name or a big time contributor, he has proven to be a reliable option up the middle this season.
Esteban German, 2B, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/23, 7:43 PM CT
Esteban German has 11 hits in 22 AB in July leading manager Trey Hillman to comment that he will find more opportunities to get German's bat in the lineup, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View: German owns a career .282 average and has been a useful fantasy performer in the past with a .326 average in 2006 an 11 SB in 2007. Don't look for him to become an everyday starter, but German might finally be at a place where he can be a nice play in AL Only leagues.
Jake Westbrook, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 7/23, 7:24 PM CT
Jake Westbrook, six weeks removed from Tommy John surgery, is doing well in his rehab, according to MLB.com. "It's stable," Westbrook said of his elbow. "I'm pleased with it. It's still a little achy and a little sore. Now it's a matter of letting it heal and doing some rehab."

Our View: Westbrook will likely miss the first half of next season, and therefore is likely not worth really thinking about in terms of fantasy production until late in 2009.
Scott Linebrink, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 7:21 PM CT
Scott Linebrink, who missed about two weeks with some shoulder soreness, didn't feel any lingering affect after making an appearance on Tuesday, according to MLB.com. "Now, it's a matter of the layoff contributing to being rusty out there," said Linebrink.

Our View: With Bobby Jenks back in the closers role, and Octavio Dotel continuing to mow down hitters, Linebrink should have some time to work back into the form that has led to a 2.31 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over 39 innings this season.
Jered Weaver, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 7:17 PM CT
Jered Weaver, forced to leave his start on Tuesday due to a sore shoulder, was feeling much better on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. "Weav is a little sore, but is feeling better than he could have been," manager Mike Scioscia said. "But right now, we're pretty comfortable he'll make his next start."

Our View: Good news for Weaver owners who had to be feeling a bit nervous. Look for Weaver to rebound next time out, he is scheduled to face Boston on Monday, though it might be wise to bench him for that one.
Mike Napoli, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 7:13 PM CT
Mike Napoli (shoulder) will join the Angels on Friday though he is still a ways away from returning to the lineup, according to MLB.com. Napoli has been throwing since Monday, playing catch at 90 feet, but the team has still not commented as to when he will be back behind the plate.

Our View: Napoli appears to still be at least a week away from returning, so Jeff Mathis owners can breathe a sigh of relief, at least for now.
Ryan Garko, 1B, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 7/23, 6:51 PM CT
Ryan Garko hit his eight home run of the year on his way to producing three hits, two runs and four RBI for the Tribe.

Our View: Garko has failed to deliver on the promise he flashed last season when he powered 21 long balls in 484 AB. Though he has 10 RBI in his last 16 games, in 13 of those games he failed to push a run across the plate.
John Lackey, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 6:40 PM CT
John Lackey improved to 8-2 on the year but it was an ugly victory as he was hit hard to the tune of eight hits and six runs in five innings against the Indians.

Our View: This is the third time in four starts that Lackey has surrendered five or more runs, and on the year his ERA sits at 3.02, almost identical to his 3.01 mark of last season. Guess that old regression to the mean has something to it doesn't it?
Aaron Laffey, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 7/23, 6:36 PM CT
Aaron Laffey was pounded until he cried uncle on Wednesday in his seventh loss of the year. Laffey allowed two walks and 12 hits in just four innings which led to eight runs allowed, the third time in 10 starts in which he has allowed eight runs.

Our View: Laffey has permitted 16 runs over his last 7.2 innings, though only 11 of the runs were earned leading to a 12.91 ERA. Obviously Laffey should be benched for the moment, and given his alarming lack of strike outs, just 43 in 93.2 IP, he simply doesn't have enough "stuff" to overcome those days when his control is off.
Howie Kendrick, 2B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 6:29 PM CT
Howie Kendrick had four hits on Wednesday, three of which were doubles, on his way to raising his average to .341. Kendrick also scored three runs and had three RBI.

Our View: Kendrick actually has more stolen bases (seven) than walks this season (five), and that just isn't a recipe for long term success. There is no doubting the man can rake, but until he gains a better control of the strike zone he will likely continue to be nothing more than an empty average hitter in the mold of Placido Polanco.
Jeff Mathis, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 6:25 PM CT
Jeff Mathis had the best day of his major league career with four hits and a career-high six RBI for the Angels in their 14-11 victory over the Indians.

Our View: One of the hits was Mathis' eighth home run, the second straight game that he has gone deep. Mike Napoli should be back soon to take away some at-bats from Mathis, but regardless of who starts, the Angels have quite the power hitting duo to turn to behind the dish.
Michael Young, SS, Texas RangersWednesday 7/23, 6:18 PM CT
Michael Young had two hits, including his eighth home run of the season for the Rangers on Wednesday. Young also had a single while adding his seventh stolen base of the year.

Our View: Young continues to be one of the most productive shortstops in the game even though he was 1-for-16 over the previous four games. He may do anything exceedingly well, but he provides enough runs and stolen bases, not to mention his yearly 200-hits, to be worthy of running out there every day.
Orlando Cabrera, SS, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 6:10 PM CT
Orlando Cabrera, whose name has come up lately in trade talks, when 2-for-3 with two runs, an RBI and his 16th stolen base for the White Sox.

Our View: Cabrera continues to be a solid source of steals, but after a great month of June (.336) he has fallen on some hard times of late including just one hit in his last four games leading to a .221 average in July.
C.J. Wilson, P, Texas RangersWednesday 7/23, 6:04 PM CT
C.J. Wilson blew his third save of the season as his ERA climbed to 5.06 on the season after allowing a home run to Carlos Quentin.

Our View: So you think it's time for the Rangers to turn to Eddie Guardado? We might have agreed with you before seeing his line (0.2 IP, three hits, one walk, four ER). The Rangers pen simply doesn't have too many reliable arms, though Wilson would appear to be "the man" at the end of the game for the time being.
Bobby Jenks, P, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 6:00 PM CT
Bobby Jenks picked up his first save since coming back from the DL working a scoreless ninth inning against the Rangers. Jenks was set up by Octavio Dotel who earned the win, his fourth of the year.

Our View: Jenks is good to go and obviously should be active in all formats now that he is back on the hill.
Carlos Quentin, LF, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 5:58 PM CT
Carlos Quentin hit two home runs, including a game winning shot off of Rangers closer C.J. Wilson on Wednesday. This was the third time this season that Quentin has hit two home runs in a game.

Our View: Quentin has pushed his totals up to 26 home runs and 76 RBI, simply massive production from a bat that wasn't even believed to be worthy of starting at the beginning of the year (something Jerry Owens owners won't soon forget).
Jarrod Washburn, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 5:30 PM CT
The Jarrod Washburn to the Yankees trade talk is gaining steam with the proposed deal now likely to include Jose Vidro, according to the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Our View: This deal is really about money as Washburn is due about $14 million over the next two seasons. The report centers around the idea of the Yankees swapping their high priced left handed failure, Kei Igawa, to the Mariners along with his $14 million in remaining salary. Stay tuned.
Xavier Nady, RF, New York YankeesWednesday 7/23, 5:02 PM CT
Xavier Nady extended his hitting streak to 12-games on Wednesday thanks to two hits. He also scored twice.

Our View: Nady is hitting a robust .328 with 56 RBI on the year, and with each passing day his cost in a trade seems to grow in proportion to his work on the diamond. If he is moved he shouldn't lose much value if any as he will certainly continue to operate as a starter wherever he ends up.
Derek Jeter, SS, New York YankeesWednesday 7/23, 4:39 PM CT
Derek Jeter had two hits to push his average up to .285 for the Yankees. The shortstop also scored a run against the Twins.

Our View: Jeter has struggled all year to put together a string of "Jeter-like" effort at the plate, but we are still holding out hope that he will be able to hit .300 when all is said an done. He remains a bottom tier starter in mixed leagues.
Alexi Casilla, 2B, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 7/23, 4:37 PM CT
Alexi Casilla had two more hits on Wednesday, leading to a run scored, as he upped his average to .323 in the process.

Our View: Casilla is hitting a robust 10-for-26 since the All-Star break, a .385 clip, in what is shaping up to be a truly special season for the Twinkies. It would be nice if he stole a few more bags, but he has clearly played himself into a starting role in mixed leagues up the middle.
Mariano Rivera, P, New York YankeesWednesday 7/23, 4:33 PM CT
Mariano Rivera picked up his 25th save of the season on Wednesday by retiring the only batter he faced in the Yankees victory over the Yankees.

Our View: Rivera has 25 saves against zero blown saves. If not for the work of Francisco Rodriguez, Rivera would likely be the talk of AL relievers at this point as he has been simply marvelous.
Glen Perkins, P, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 7/23, 4:31 PM CT
Glen Perkins gave up eight hits and a walk on his way to five runs allowed over six innings in his third loss of the season.

Our View: This was Perkins worst effort since May 30th. Perkins may not dazzle in most outings, but he continues to be a serviceable depth starter in deep mixed leagues, albeit one with a dearth of strikeouts (just 46 in 90.1 IP).
Mike Mussina, P, New York YankeesWednesday 7/23, 4:28 PM CT
Mike Mussina improved to 13-6 by pitching eight masterful innings against the Twins on Wednesday. Mussina allowed six hits and didn't walk a single batter on his way to seven strike outs and zero runs allowed.

Our View: Mussina has now worked five straight games of at least six innings with less than two runs allowed each outing. He continues to amaze given his recent history, largely the result of simply not walking any batters (only 16 in 21 games).
Placido Polanco, 2B, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 4:24 PM CT
Placido Polanco went 3-for-5 with two runs scored to push his average up to .312 on the year.

Our View: Polanco has three hits in three of the last four games during which time he is 9-for-21 (.429). He isn't much of an offensive threat other than the average and his runs scored total (52), but he is still a fine middle infield option in mixed leagues.
Miguel Cabrera, 1B, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 4:14 PM CT
Miguel Cabrera continued to flash his bat on Wednesday as he had two hits which led to three RBI for the Tigers.

Our View: Cabrera has been on fire in July hitting .329 with six home runs and 23 RBI in just 18 games. He still has a ways to go to produce the numbers expected of him this year, hut he is up to .290-17-71 for the Tigers with this recent hot streak.
David DeJesus, LF, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/23, 4:11 PM CT
David DeJesus broke up Armando Galarraga's perfect game in the seventh inning and he also added another hit in his final at-bat to go 2-for-4 for the Royals.

Our View: DeJesus continues to produce in the average category (.304), and his other numbers including 10 home runs, 54 RBI, 48 runs and nine SB mark him as a solid third outfielder in mixed leagues.
Zack Greinke, P, Kansas City RoyalsWednesday 7/23, 4:09 PM CT
Zack Greinke fell to 7-7 after allowing five runs in six innings against the Tigers.

Our View: Greinke has now gone five outings without a win, he has lost his last three decisions, and he has posted a 6.67 ERA over his last five starts to bring his ERA up to 4.06. Greinke has still had a solid season, but his effort of late is starting to seriously diminish his overall production.
Armando Galarraga, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 4:06 PM CT
Armando Galarraga had a perfect game through six innings before ending up allowing three hits, a walk, and one runs scored in seven innings against the Royals to pick up his eighth victory of the season.

Our View: This effort dropped Armando's ERA to 3.27. If he keeps hurling gems like this one, he might yet squeeze his way into the AL Rookie of the Year race with Jacoby Ellsbury and Evan Longoria.
Jason Bartlett, SS, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 7/23, 4:00 PM CT
Jason Bartlett has been activated from the DL following his battle with a sprained right knee, according to the AP. The team optioned Ben Zobrist to Triple-A Durham as an adjoining move.

Our View: Bartlett is expected to resume his role as the Rays' starting shortstop. He notably had a seven-game hitting streak prior to going down, and is worth a look in larger AL-only leagues.
Joe Crede, 3B, Chicago White SoxWednesday 7/23, 3:26 PM CT
Joe Crede is dealing with lower back stiffness and is unsure when he will return to action, according to MLB.com. Crede missed his second straight game on Wednesday and said, "If I know the way I was going to feel one week from now, it would be interesting. The only thing I know right now is I feel better than I did yesterday."

Our View: For the next few days, Crede will undergo extensive treatment on the area, using the contrast of going back and forth from hot to cold, and doing whatever else planned to get more blood flow in the area and loosen up the back. He would rather take a step back right now, rather than to keep pushing it and risk being out much longer. We will keep you posted on his status.
Emil Brown, RF, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 3:07 PM CT
Emil Brown went 1-for-2 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Rays. He picked up a second RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Our View: Brown snapped a three-game hitless streak. He now has 49 RBI over 84 games, and remains worthy of lineups in AL-only leagues.
Ben Zobrist, SS, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 7/23, 3:03 PM CT
Ben Zobrist led the Rays to a 4-3 win over Oakland on Wednesday at Tropicana Field, as he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. He hit a single and a solo home run.

Our View: Zobrist needed a solid outing, as he was only hitting .142 (3-for-21) over his previous six games. Jason Bartlett will replace him at shortstop when he returns from the DL.
Greg Smith, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 2:58 PM CT
Greg Smith issued four earned runs on five hits over six innings in Wednesday's 4-3 loss to the Rays, with two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View: Smith falls to 5-9 for the season, and has taken a loss in three of his last four starts. He should not be in your lineups right now.
James Shields, P, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 7/23, 2:54 PM CT
James Shields allowed three earned runs on six hits over 8.1 innings in Wednesday's 4-3 win over Oakland at Tropicana Field, with no walks and seven strikeouts.

Our View: Shields is now 5-1 over his last seven starts.
Sean Rodriguez, 2B, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 2:45 PM CT
Sean Rodriguez has been optioned back to Triple-A Salt Lake, according to the OC Register. The team recalled reliever Jason Bulger as the adjoining move.

Our View: Rogriguez failed to prove his worth to the Angels during his stint with the club, as he only hit .185 over 65 at-bats, with 23 strikeouts.
Jason Bulger, P, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 2:42 PM CT
Jason Bulger has been recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake, according to the OC Register. the Angels optioned infielder Sean Rodriguez back to Triple- A Salt Lake as the corresponding move.

Our View: Bulger was brought in to add a fresh arm to the bullpen after it worked six innings in a 3-2 win on Tuesday against the Indians. His stint with the club could be brief and he does not merit fantasy attention.
Kevin Millwood, P, Texas RangersWednesday 7/23, 2:09 PM CT
Kevin Millwood left Wednesday's outing in the third inning with an unknown injury, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The injury is yet to be revealed, but he did recently have some issues with his groin. We will keep you posted on his status when more details surface.
Alex Cintron, SS, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 7/23, 1:46 PM CT
Alex Cintron, who is nursing a strained left hamstring, will go on a five-game injury rehab assignment, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View: The Oriles are hopeful he could return in late July.
Jason Bay, LF, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/23, 1:14 PM CT
Fox Sports indicates that Jason Bay is on the Athletics' radar and they are talking to the Pirates about acquiring him.

Our View: A trade between the two clubs is said to be unlikely however, as the Pirates are asking for more than the Athletics are willing to give.
Brian Roberts, 2B, Baltimore OriolesWednesday 7/23, 1:08 PM CT
The Chicago White Sox reportedly were interested in acquiring Brian Roberts, according to Fox Sports. If the Sox acquired him, they would have moved Alexei Ramirez to shortstop, and would have attempted to deal Orlando Cabrera, who they talked to the Dodgers about.

Our View: The Orioles are still hanging on in the AL East race, and the club would like to keep Roberts, unless of course they are persuaded by a great deal.
Jason Bartlett, SS, Tampa Bay RaysWednesday 7/23, 11:57 AM CT
Jason Bartlett is likely to be activated from the DL Thursday following his bout with a right knee sprain, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View: Bartlett is feeling good and is expected to resume his role as the starting shortstop, and regular days off may not be necessary, depending on how he does upon his return.
Jorge Posada, C, New York YankeesWednesday 7/23, 11:52 AM CT
Jorge Posada had been told that his right labrum is deteriorating and will require surgery, but he may be able to continue his season as a first baseman or DH, according to Yankees.com. The 36-year-old Posada has experienced a weakness in his throwing shoulder all season long and has ruled out catching for the remainder of the campaign, but the injury does not affect him as much when he is hitting, and with six months of estimated rehab looming, Posada must decide if he is willing to resume playing in 2008 at the possible expense of missing time in 2009. Posada said, "It's not about me. It's about the team now. How can I help the team? That's why I'm going to go through the rehab. If I'm able to hit, I'm going to try to do that. If I'm not able to hit, I'm going to have surgery."

Our View: Posada wants to help the team, but he is only hitting .157 (3-for-19) over his last six games, with no homers or RBI.
Fausto Carmona, P, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 7/23, 9:49 AM CT
Fausto Carmona remains on track to return to the Indians' rotation this weekend, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. He did not have any issues during his 40-pitch bullpen session Tuesday, and his hip is no longer a problem.

Our View: Manager Eric Wedge has him slated to start on Saturday against the Twins. Carmona will provide a boost to the Indians, as well as fantasy squads, and should be penciled back into lineups for the weekend.
Jeff Clement, C, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 9:42 AM CT
The Seattle Times indicates that Jeff Clement won't be able to serve as a catcher until at least Friday after tearing the nail off his right thumb during action on Tuesday.

Our View: If he is part of your mix in AL-only leagues, the team indicated he may still be able to pinch hit if needed.
Raul Ibanez, LF, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:46 AM CT
Raul Ibanez is closing in on a home run record at Safeco Field, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. He has blasted 60 homers at Safeco, which is only two behind all-time leader Bret Boone.

Our View: Ibanez has 13 homers so far this season, with two coming over his last six games, both of which were hit at home against the Indians.
Erik Bedard, P, Seattle MarinersWednesday 7/23, 8:42 AM CT
Erik Bedard's MRI revealed the original diagnosis of an internal impingement in his left shoulder, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Our View: Bedard was eligible to come off the DL this week, but he hasn't even been able to throw a bullpen session. The non-waiver trade deadline is July 31, and for Bedard to be dealt, he would have to show he is healthy.
Dustin Pedroia, 2B, Boston Red SoxWednesday 7/23, 7:59 AM CT
Dustin Pedroia is close to a Red Sox record as he is riding a 23-game road hitting streak, according to the Boston Globe. He is just one off of Nomar Garciaparra's streak in 1998, which is the longest in Boston since 1956.

Our View: He will look to continue the streak tonight at Seattle. Overall, he currently has a seven-game hitting streak, with five multi-hit efforts over the span.
Nick Punto, SS, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 7/23, 7:51 AM CT
Nick Punto returned to the Twins' lineup Tuesday following his battle with a finger injury, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View: It is good news that he is back in action, but he went 0-for-4 (against the Yankees), and fantasy owners in AL-only leagues should wait until he proves to be effective again before using him.
Michael Cuddyer, RF, Minnesota TwinsWednesday 7/23, 7:46 AM CT
Michael Cuddyer's CT scan revealed that his sore left middle finger has no damage to the bone, according to the Star Tribune. Cuddyer will meet with the Twins' doctor soon to figure out the next step.

Our View: This is good news that there is no structural damage, but there still remains no timetable as to when he may return to the Twins. Denard Span will continue to roam his spot in the outfield while he is gone.
Xavier Nady, RF, New York YankeesWednesday 7/23, 7:36 AM CT
The Phillies have joined the list of interested teams for Xavier Nady, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Phillies are also interested in reliever Damaso Marte.

Our View: Nady is hitting .327 with 56 RBI, and his rate of home runs would increase by playing his home games at Citizen's Bank Ballpark.
Huston Street, P, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 7:05 AM CT
The SF Chronicle indicates that Huston Street is on the Reds' radar.

Our View: The source also believes the Mets may take a shot at him prior to the trade deadline. Either way, Street looks to be leaving Oakland, assuming a favorable deal is presented.
Daric Barton, 1B, Oakland AthleticsWednesday 7/23, 7:01 AM CT
Daric Barton will have the six staples removed from his head today, and then will go to Albuquerque to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: Barton has struggled with a .224 average with Oakland, so some at-bats in the minors could benefit him before he returns to the team.
Magglio Ordonez, RF, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 12:44 AM CT
The man affectionately known as Mags to teammates led the way on the field this evening, pushing his Tigers to a dominating 7-1 win over the Royals. Outfielder Magglio Ordonez went 3-for-5 at the dish, driving in two runs along the way.

Our View: Mags stranded three runners on base, not that they were needed. He now carries a record of 11-for-28 (.393) over six games since returning from injury with seven RBIs.
Kenny Rogers, P, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 12:43 AM CT
The Tigers found solid pitching from the veteran left arm of Kenny Rogers this evening, leading his team to a 7-1 rain-soaked win over the Kansas City Royals. Rogers pitched six innings, allowing just one run over four hits with one walk and four strikeouts.

Our View: The Tigers needed his effort this evening, finding muted offensive numbers. Rogers now carries a record of 5-2 over his last 12 starts.
Placido Polanco, 2B, Detroit TigersWednesday 7/23, 12:42 AM CT
The Tigers found five players to post one RBI each this evening, pulling the 7-1 win over Kansas City. The man of the hour had to be second baseman Placido Polanco , going 2-for-5 with his 21st double and fourth homer of the season to total two RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

Our View: Polanco has fallen a bit, hitting .386 through June to slip to .246 through July. He's never been a huge run producer, but his five RBIs thus far this month is still disappointing.
Jeff Mathis, C, Los Angeles AngelsWednesday 7/23, 12:16 AM CT
The Indians and Angels put on a great show for baseball fans this evening, but in the end the hometown fans were rewarded with a 3-2 win for the Angels. Their efforts were led by catcher Jeff Mathis , going 1-for-3 at the plate with his seventh home run of the season to post two RBIs and two runs scored on the night, also adding his second stolen base of the season.

Our View: Mathis has really struggled at the plate this month, hitting .195 through July with one home run and seven RBIs coming into today.
Grady Sizemore, CF, Cleveland IndiansWednesday 7/23, 12:15 AM CT
The Indians failed to make good on solid hitting, falling 3-2 to the Angels this evening. Outfielder Grady Sizemore was once again a factor, hitting his 24th homer of the season to go 1-for-4 at the plate with one RBI and one run scored. Sizemore did face closer Francisco Rodriguez in the top of the 9th with two outs (no one on) with a chance to tie it up, but instead found a walk.

Our View: Sizemore has work to do to match the nine homers for 16 RBIs he enjoyed in June, touting five homers for 10 RBIs thus far in July. However, his average is up from .281 in June to .328 in July.
